Do I have to audition to be in chorus?
No! Auditions are not required. We have a variety of levels of ensembles, including beginning. However, if you like to be challenged, we encourage you to audition for our advanced ensembles.
Can I do chorus with sports?
Yes! Our chorus students are involved in many activities at school, including sports. Mrs. Johns works well with the coaches if there are any conflicts so that the students can get the best experience out of their extra curricular activities and chorus.
I'm in one of the academies. Can I still take chorus?
Yes! The academies have a strict class schedule. However, our admin does a great job of making the class schedule work so that our students can take chorus all four years of high school.
I can't make chorus fit in my schedule freshman year. Can I come in later?
Yes! However, there are ways to make chorus fit in your schedule. For instance, 9th grade World Geography is not a graduation requirement. Also, many of our students choose to take Health and Personal Fitness over the summer. Mrs. Johns has lots of answers to individual schedule conflicts.
How much time commitment does it take outside of school?
There will be a few after school rehearsals leading up to concerts. Believe us, you'll feel better with the extra rehearsals because we combine with other classes. It feels much less overwhelming to be prepared. However, chorus has one of the least extra time commitments of all the performing arts.
Does it cost money to be in chorus?
There are a few required fees. Annual dues pays for music, clinicians, accompanists, and food during various events throughout the year! There is also a one-time purchase of some uniform pieces. Financial assistance is available for those that require it.
